Cornish Brides Front Cover shoot

Well as the title suggests myself and Julie from Angel Face will be doing another front cover. I feel honored to have worked with them as this will be my fourth photo shoot with them giving me 3 front covers and an inside feature on another.

The last shoot we did was for the feature and the shoot took place at the Maritime Museum in Falmouth.

We also did the last wedding fayre and had the same model to make up as we did for the feature.

So first stop is Kingsley Village on Sunday for a wedding fayre and then off to Newquay on Monday for the photo shoot. Then a weeks of weddings and wedding trials. Will need a mini holiday after ;P

Hair Lacking shine

How about a beer shampoo or even cracking a few eggs or olive oil conditioner? These really do work although i do have to say they definatly do not smell fantastic and are also a tad messy :S but if your on a budget and its sat in the kitchen why not :D
Failing that you can try shampooing your hair twice and then piling on the conditioner and wraping a warm towel around your head and relax maybe in a nice warm bath.
The heat helps the cuticles open up and the conditioner to soak in and work its magic.
If your hair is really bad why not try an oil treatment for afterwords (one that smells better than olive oil)

Such as kitoko oil treatment or a bit of morrocan oil. They work wonders to condition and give shine to dull lifeless hair.

Miss London

So on Saturday I was up bright and early 5.30amto be exact. Off i went to a wedding in Falmouth that morning where I did hair for 6 people and then home for 12pm to have lunch. One hour later I was heading off to Newquay airport to fly up to London to do hair for the Miss London Competition.

I felt very proud of myself for flying, then getting a train and finally a taxi to my venue all by myself ;) It was madness in London due to the football match between Man U and Barcelona but there was a great atmosphere and I was buzzing and ready to go.
All the girls got ready in a club called Pigaelles before heading to The Cafe De Paris for the finals. They had several different sections one being dress wear, cultural wear, where several girls made their own outfits, and a short round.
Once all the hard work was done it was on to the after party and time to relax with a few bottles of wine (not to myself)
The girls looked amazing and it was a fantastic evening.

Wedding month madness

So may is finally here tomorrow and so is my first wedding of the month.
1 Bride
3 bridesmaids
3 Guests
All to be ready by 12 noon :D

I carried out a second trial yesterday a few months after the first one due to the bride wanting to try out hair extensions which really added that finishing touch to her style and bulked out her hair. She has an amazing head piece which can be seen in the picture below.
Tomorrow we are going for a Grecian theme and I'm really looking forward to seeing the girls in there stunning dresses.

The venue is 'The Green Bank Hotel,' Falmouth and it is stunning. With a bridal suite over looking the harbour where you can step out of a double doored bay window on to a beautiful balcony to enjoy the views and relax in the sitting area or recline on the four poster bed. I have to say it is one of the nicer hotels and more up to date that Falmouth has to offer. They also have a brilliant wedding planner called Zara who will take care of your wedding needs in regards to the hotel.

The first trial I carried out this week is for a wedding mid may that will take place in St mawes. I must admit I did get a bit excited about going on the ferry (I know I'm sad) and enjoyed the lovely drive with the sun beaming.
So roll on tomorrow and then my second wedding on Thursday at Mawgan Porth which is a Dream Team Wedding, will be great to work with my favourite ladies Helen Morcom of Helen Morcom Photography and Julie Wieczorek of Angel Face Mineral make up.

Corinsh Brides summer front cover shoot

Well Monday morning brought around the photo shoot for the Cornish brides magazine front cover and what a wonderful day it was for it.

My self, Julie (make up) and Samantha (model) arrived at 11.30 and entered the studio 'The Lightbox', (Truro). We began to prepare Sam's hair and make up while the dresses were hung up, flowers and accessories sorted through and balloons put in place.
We even had a little bridesmaid this time which really nice and she was so excited to be getting dressed up like a princess
Julie used her 100% mineral make up for Sam's look and as the day went on she built on the make up to give different looks for different pictures.

First dress and I have fallen in love with it :D

First make up look, light and fresh, before being built on for a heavier look.

I pinned back bits of hair changed hair pieces and for the last shot let the hair down and popped a Vail in. We got some lovely photos at Malpas by the water and up in the wooded area.

Second dress with daisy detailing.

The official pictures and magazine will be available from the 2nd of June

Angel Face Mineral Make Up

I have the pleasure of working with the wonderful Julie Wieczorek who has set up a company with her business partner Guy selling their own brand 100% mineral make up and some skin care products.

Julie has a true passion for make up and is full of creative flare, the dedication and effort she puts into doing somebodies make up for a photo shoot or a wedding is truly amazing. She cares about every little detail and is a true perfectionist.

A truly fantastic range of mineral make up which is 100% natural, and therefore free from Bismuth Oxy chloride, talc’s, fillers, parabens and artificial colourants. Its natural healing properties make it beneficial to problem skin and it gives a beautiful, youthful and radiant coverage, it sits on the skin and does not sink into it so does not clog your pores and allows your skin to breathe

They also have an amazing range of natural skin care products to compliment their Mineral Make-up perfectly. Nasty chemical ingredients have been replaced with a cocktail of scrumptious natural oils, butters and plant extracts.

Not only can you get a lovely natural flawless finish but you can vamp it up with dark alluring colours due to a large choice of different eye shadows

Julie can create such a number of different looks so why not give her a call today  to book a consultation/make up lesson or for your wedding day.
Or buy some of her products online and quote Jodie at the check out.

You Never know who you will meet

While doing a routine cut and blow dry today with a local lady from my village, we started talking about weddings and how it is an area I am strongly focusing on at the moment.
She then told me that herself and her daughter have set up a business recently making flowers, Wedding Flowers , Wrist Corsages , Buttonholes , Bouquets etc : and that they are all artificial but mostly made out of foam, She showed me some examples of their work and all i can say is WOW they were completely stunning, brilliant price and they will never die.

Cornish Brides Magazine (Photoshoot)

So this month was the release of the new A4 sized Cornish Brides Magazine.
A few months ago myself, (JDHairstylist) Laura Bell (Make Up), Amanda K bridal wear, Life Photographic (Photographers) , Samantha Orpe (Miss Cornwall 2010) and Cornish Brides Magazine all gathered at the Green Lawns Hotel Falmouth for a photo shoot.

The sun was shining but the wind was blowing, we headed inside to get Samantha ready. We were allocated a downstairs bedroom in which to do the hair and make up and for Samantha to get changed into her different dresses.

We had 3 different Dresses and two different head pieces so i started by curling Sam's hair and leaving it down and very casual. I felt by doing this i could achieve two very different looks as my second look was to put all of sames hair up in a big bunch of curls slightly of set to one side.

Samantha was a beautiful and very professional model and make it all look completely effortless
Sam even ventured out into the very windy weather for a few out door photos with the Cornish brides umbrella. The day seemed to fly passed and before I knew it we were packing up and going home.
Although today I met up with Sam again to style her hair for the Cornish brides lostwithiel wedding fayre, where Sam wore several dresses and walked around the fayre showing off her hair make up.
Please visit my website for more photos of Samantha

Harriet Coleman (Plus Size Model)

I first heard about Harriet after receiving a text message from Claire Marie Make up artist. She told me that Harriet was looking to do a photo shoot to update her portfolio ready to be sent off to a top plus size modelling agency in Paris and asked if i would be interested in styling Harriet's hair for the shoot.

The day of the shoot arrived and I was up early to meet everyone at Starbucks at chiverton road about ready to jump in one car and travel up to liskard. The morning was very cold and icy and we were hoping it would thaw but it didn't although everything being white added some great photos to portfolio.

Harriet has experience modelling and has worked for QVC, Matalan, ITV's This Morning and L'Oreal.
She blew me away with how professional she was and on such a cold day, the more the cold seeped through my boots and made my toes cry out in cold pain while i shivered with a jumper and big jacket and gloves on the more I admired her determination and how much this career meant to her.

Harriet is hoping to help raise the profile of plus size models everywhere and to promote a healthy image to all the world. No more size zeros lets see a healthy body image and promote women's amazing curves.
The shoot had to be called to an end when the cold became too much and Harriet started feeling cold (never a good sign) She was such a good sport and I would highly recommend her.

Wedding Trial done today

So I have done a wedding trial today for Anna Fisk and she looked lovely No photos yet though as her hair is a surprise for her big day.

When doing a hair trial 99% of the time I will curl the hair first even if the hairstyle is not really that curly if at all, I purely do it to add body and texture to the hair which makes it easier to style and stops it from going flat.

Wedding trials are a very important part of the process as it gives brides a chance to see what their hair is capable off and weather or not they will require hair extensions. Also something a bride thought would look amazing may not suit them so it gives them a chance to try a few different styles.

It is very rare i will do a wedding with out a trial first so it pays to book early.

How best to wash your hair

ALWAYS shampoo your hair twice

This isnt the shampoo companys trying to sell more product as by doing this you wont have to wash your hair as often.
The first shampoo cleans the hair and removes build up
The Second cleans the scalp

If you dont do this you will just be brushing the dirt from your scalp back through your hair.
Also pop conditioner at your tips and not your roots to prevent hair beocome greasy quickly.

Use a wind tooth comb after washing or if possible avoid combing until the hair has atleast partly dried as this will help prevent further damaged by avoiding stretching and tearing the hair when it is in a weak state.

Also do use a product to protect your hair when blow dry and styling, it is not a gimic it really does help.

Introducing myself to the wedding industry :S

So I thought I would be even more pro active and I have created a facebook Page for people who offer wedding related services/products and for brides to be.
The best way to get work is by networking with other people so It makes sense for us all to stick together and to help each other.
Well so far it has gone really well and with in a matter of hours it has managed to receive 43 likes woop woop the majority being wedding providers so if you are a bride to be or a provider please facebook
'The Wedding Ring'.
I would love to eventually have a small publication with lots of services providers in but for the time being I will stick to the facebook page and my blog.
Thanks for reading guys x

Bringing back the 70's/80's for 2011?

So apparently the new style for 2011 is going to be a revisit to the 70/80's eras with big fuzzy hair, so get your crimpers out girls because it is time to get fierce.
This is NOT an easy style to carry off but if you can it will look fabulous :D
If this is a look you cannot carry off then maybe try the big bouncy/flicky blow dry, it gives you some sleekness but keeps the mega body

You need to achieve root lift and if you find blow drying to difficult them why not buy your self some crimpers, then section hair and just crimp once at the roots, DO NOT crimp the top section of hair as you do not want the crimp to show just to add some desired volume.

If neither of these are your thing then why not try Plaits, in this year again as they are so easy to maintain, perfect for when your on the beach or attending festivals and they always look cute and can work with a range of hair cuts and textures.

The most important thing though is to have fun with your hair and to go with what best suits you x

Wedding fayre Lostwithiel Hotel and country club

So the first Cornish brides wedding fair of the year is fast approaching
6th February 2011.

In my attempts to get ready I have printed out lots of photos of my work and have placed them in a wedding album ready to show on the day along with having a computer monitor hooked up to my laptop to run a slide show of my work.

New wedding contracts have been types and printed ready to have on hand on the day for anyone booking at the fayre (you will receive a special fayre discount).

All that is left now is to do up an A4 Poster to display, my wedding packages/price list to be printed and placed in a folder and my hair designs to be done on my training heads to display some of the work i am capable of.

Wedding Fayre's are always a great place to network and I always enjoy having a wonder around and chatting to the other attendants. You never know what can come of just chatting to other people in the industry so I'm looking forward to it :D

Hand made invites so that you can put your own personal style on them, then email katiehatherly@yahoo.co.uk  She will design the perfect invite for your day.

Model Photoshoots

                                                     Codi Davies

Model Photo shoots are a chance for the model and us to build on out portfolios and are a great chance to try new things and have a bit of fun.
This shoot was done in a studio but we also do location shoots which can offer such a diversity of looks.
For Codi we were letting her stunning features shine through and decided to add some detailing on the hair in the form of a weave, the side ponytail to keep the look sleek and not too over the top as i did not want to take away from the funky eye catching make up and of course the high quiff to make it stand out and to elongate her face.
All her make up is 100% mineral make up from www.Angelfaceonline.com
If ordering on this site please quote Jodie :D

If you are interested in using codi for modeling you can find her on Model Mayhem, she is cornwall based x
